Galveston, oh Galveston….

We made our way to the beach on
Galveston Island, situated along the the Gulf of Mexico. This place has seen its share of bad luck, with two direct hits by hurricanes. The 1900 hurricane, simple referred to as the “big one” killed more than 8,000 people. The next direct hit was again in 2008 with Hurricane Ike. You can still see evidence of the disasters but in a positive way. Many of the hundred year old trees were destroyed but local artists created wood sculptures from the surviving branches and stumps to create stunning art pieces throughout the city.

Oh, and there is a local law, no camels on the beach….
