Crater of Diamonds, Arkansas

Back in the saddle again… After reconnecting with family for a bounty of blessings we were anxious to get back to exploring the open road. With Maryland in the rear view mirror, we continue the journey.

This leg of the tour takes us to Colorado via Louisiana, Texas, and New Mexico. Our first night on the road we stopped off at Cave City, KY. Thought it would be great to kick back with a few beers and some popcorn…..we asked the hotel clerk where to get beer and it was a 45 minute drive to another county. Our first dry county!

Crater of Diamonds State Park, Murfreesboro, AR

A volcano erupted millions of years ago spewing diamonds and other precious gems during the eruption over a 36-acre field, now open to the public. Over 30,000 diamonds have been found since 1972. Equipped with our prospecting tools (thanks Tom and Marilyn) we spent a few hours digging in the dirt. We didn’t find any diamonds, but we did find Jasper, Agate, Quartz, Calcite. It felt good to have our hands in the dirt!
